02 Oct Seek FIRST!
Last week I celebrated another birthday. During the week leading up to a birthday, I found myself reflecting on the past year and considered what I feel I might have achieved, and perhaps opportunities that I may have missed. I thought about what is important to me and where I have spent my time.
As I get older, I notice something quite surreal… Time seems to be moving so much quicker now than ever before. Days are rolling into weeks, which become months and in no time a year has passed by in just the blink of an eye. It was just 12 months ago that I was cheering and celebrating my beloved Western Bulldogs winning their first premiership in 62 years. It seems like yesterday! Where has that 12 months gone?
There is a saying, ‘Time stands still for nobody. Live each moment and enjoy it because when it’s passed you can’t get it back.’ There’s a truth to this statement that is becoming even more real for me. You see, if you and I are not careful and intentional, our lives will move forward at such a speed that we may actually miss out on some important moments that God has orchestrated. God wants us to enjoy a life of abundance (John 10:10) and the only way to live in this abundance is to embrace the plans of the creator.
When was the last time that you started your day by setting aside your own plans and asking God to lead your day? Have you ever truly given God permission to set the agenda and then committed to follow His promptings like this. This is where fulfilment and fruitfulness in life is found; in the moments where we hear and respond to God with courageous faith.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (NKJ)
Let me set you a challenge. Tomorrow morning get up, look at your diary and pray over it, asking God to take the next 24 hours and have His way in your life and through what you say and do, and then be open to listening, hearing and following His lead. I promise you, if you do this, seek first God and His desires for your life, He will open up some amazing doors of opportunity.
This is a courageous prayer of faith that stands on the truth that God, the creator of all heaven and earth, has a purpose for what will happen in during next 24 hours and He wants you and I to join Him in fulfilling this purpose and the only way we can is when we seek Him first.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge the Lord in all of your ways, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5
My goal for today is to hear and respond to the voice of God… and to get ready for the adventure that placing my life in His hands will bring. Will you join me?
